FANDOM●● The Vampire Diaries CHARACTER●● Klaus (Nikoleta) POINT IN CANON●● season 3 AU CHARACTERISTICS●● Elena was never the doppelganger in this world and she was turned by a name named Bastien back in the 1700's. He was already at odds with Nikoleta because he wouldn't pledge loyalty to her, and so he's been on the run. He knew of the actual Doppelganger (which was Stefan) and since he and Elena took a liking to the Salvatore brothers, he turned them (though not before Stefan had impreganated a girl, unintentionally ensuring the Doppelganger gene would carry on), further angering Nikoleta. Fast forward to present day-- the four are back in Mystic Falls because they hear of the Doppelganger. Though they were trying to keep him safe from Nikoleta, she still managed to obtain the Doppelganger and complete the necessary ceremony to become the only vampire/werewolf hybrid.
